The Festival

In the midst of one of his leaps, Runi got an idea. Tory's mother would probably take her other kid to go check the village to go after them and get them, but what if she didn't find them their. If they could stay in another place until she had checked the Rebellion's village........ Mid-air, Runi teleported them both to the oasis, but there was an unexpected side effect. He had never tried going there while in motion and didn't realize that his momentum would carry across. He lost his grip on Tory and went tumbling across the soft sand, getting a lot of the dust in his hair.

Tory landed in the sand spinning, finally coming to a stop after a few tumbles. She got to her feet, shaking sand out of her hair and spitting the gritty stuff out of her mouth. "Okay, what the bone?!" she almost shouted. Instantly, she knew that this boy was not normal. While jumping from tree to tree was typical for a were, teleporting was completely illogical and impossible.

"Blech, that's new." Runi spit the metal medallion out of his mouth as well as a good deal of sand. Holding the ankh between his teeth helped him concentrate to control his powers when he needed his hands free. He shook the sand out of his hair and sat up. "You okay?" he asked. "I didn't think we'd still be moving. That was my first time trying that."

"You didn't answer me," Tory accused. "What the bone was that? I'd like an answer pretty soon here, I think I have a right to know since you just grabbed me all of a sudden."

"That was teleportation." Runi said like it was the most normal thing in the world. "I've just, ya know, never tried it while I was moving before. We're in the oasis dimension now. The only people that can get in here without any help are me and my mom."

"An indepth explanation would be great here. ......Any time now," Tory replied. She had a number of ideas churning inside her head, but never liked to assume anything without first knowing all of the facts.

"Oooh, you mean like how we got here." Runi said, finally getting it. "I'm Runihura. My mom's Nathifa, and my dad's Set. I don't really have any friends and no one is really nice to me at all, so I just wanted to make some friends. But then you had to go. We can stay here until your mom checks the village and sees that we aren't there."

Oh jeez, this kid was an idiot. "Do you have any idea how much my mother is going to freak when she finds out I'm not at the village?" Tory asked in an oddly civil tone, despite her inner rage. "She's going to be beyond furious!" And god or not, she knew her mother could tear someone a new butthole when she was pissed enough. She couldn't believe that this kid was so selfish! Sure, Tory had planned to run off to the village, but she had also planned on her mother finding her there. With Jan to stand behind, the ocelot would've given in, Tory knew it. But what this kid was doing took her plan above and beyond what was needed. "Take me to the village, now."

Faorn was sleepy lately. She had know clue of the past events.
"Hey, Syn!" She called to the Wyvern. "What has happened the past few hours... or days?"
Then something struck Faorn. No really. What had happened?
What if I have had some short time of amnesia or somethin'? Faorn thought. Well, that probably wasn't true, but she had been out of it for a VERY long time...

Runi seemed to shrink under the girl's harsh gaze. He thought that Tory hadn't wanted to be found, but she was asking to go back to the village. He took her and and slipped into the oasis. Just a few seconds later their feet touched down on the streets of the Rebellion's home town. Once there, Runi disappeared again. He actually had just made a jump to the fountain in the center of the village. When he was troubled the main thing he liked to do to retreat away from everything was to just lay under the surface of the water with his eyes closed. There had been a few times where someone had seen him and mistaken him for a dead body, but he was usually hidden due to the ever moving surface of the water.

Syn sat against the rim of the fountain, the tips of his aplomado style wings were just barely beneath the surface of the water. He had his back to Runi and couldn't see his body lying under the water. "Nothing actually," the wyvern answered, wondering what Faorn was doing out so late. "Just a celebration of the war two years ago."

Tory didn't bother to wonder where Runi had gone. A part of her wondered if she had hurt his feelings. Another part of her didn't care. She shifted to the form of an ocelot cub, trying to remember where her father lived. She caught his scent near the Inn where they had stayed with him the previous night. Following that scent, she darted out of the village towards the mountains.

Runi opened his eyes underwater to see if anyone was around and was immediately greeted by two wingtips trailing down into the water above him. He didn't really care whose they were. After letting all of the unnecessary air out of his lungs he breathed in water, trying to bring the same numbing coolness into his body. He just lost his one chance for a friend. Maybe I should just stay at the Pantheon he thought. At least there people acknowledge that I have a use

"Have you seen a little kid named....ummm......uhhh....Runi! Yeah, that's it!"

"Hm?" Syn looked over at a tiny, dark haired girl with blue gray eyes. "I'm here with my mom," the girl continued. "We were looking for him and Tory. Mom's really upset. I think Runi would know where Tory was."

"I haven't seen either of them," Syn apologized.

Runi let out the water and breathed in more, closing his eyes. He heard Geary's voice and made sure to stay perfectly still. He didn't really care if she happened to see him. It would probably be better for both of them if they thought he was dead. They didn't know the kinds of things he could do on accident, things that would invariably happen if he ever took off his ankh pendant.

Geary frowned slightly. "Okay. Let me know if you see either of them please."

"Sure thing, kid," Syn promised. He leaned backward at bit to crack his back. He leaned back a bit too far, and fell into the fountain landing on something...small and squishy. He scrambled out of the water and turned around quickly, his wings splattering water everywhere. He peered down into the water at the form of a small, dark skinned child. "Holy shit kid I think I just killed your friend!"

Runi still kept still despite Syn landing on top of him

Kitai came running into the square when she heard someone shout about someone being dead. Her worries evaporated though when she saw that it was just Runi in the fountain again. She wouldn't tell the others that he was alive and well; if he was going to play dead he had his own reasons.

"Shit umm....dammit!" Syn raked his fingers through his wet hair, trying to figure out what to do. Some parent was going to be pissed at him.

"Runi?" Geary leaned over the edge of the fountain, peering in the water. "Stop playing games you silly sleepy head and come on out!"

It wasn't that she knew he could sustain himself under water for a long period of time, but with her childish nature, she thought he was just playing a game and trying to scare her. "Did Tory hurt your feelings? She does that to people a lot..."

Runi hadn't hurt Geary yet, but it would only be a matter of time. It's better if they think i'm dead, it's better if they think I'm dead he chanted inwardly. They weren't there last night. Even his mother was hiding what he did.

"Runi?" Geary said after several long moments. "Runi?!" She backed away from the fountain. She didn't have the form of an ocelot like her sister, but she ran up towards her fathers home. He would know what to do. He always did.

By the time she got up there, a fire was going in the fireplace. Jan and Amilie were in the living room shouting at each other. Tory stood defiantly beside her father.

When Geary left Runi sat up in the fountain, spitting out the water that he took in to keep him sinking. He shook the water out of his hair but stayed in the fountain. He assumed that she would be back and he couldn't just have disappeared out of the fountain.
"I'm guessing you have your reasons." Kitai said. "But please don't make any little girls cry."

"The other one might know what I am." Runi said. "If she comes here she'll expose me."

Geary didn't want to go inside with her parents yelling at each other, but if Runi was in trouble then she had to. The two adults didn't stop when Geary opened the door, nor when she tried to get their attention. In the end, she just settled on screaming. She had such a high pitched scream that the two of them were instantly silenced and Amilie had to cover her ears with her hands. "Daddy, Runi's in the fountain and I think there's something wrong!" Jan appeared instantly confused but he followed his daughter out the door. Normally when she addressed him as daddy, she was worried about something.

"So spit it out." Kitai gave Runi a stern, but no unkind look. "Why do you want those girls to think that you're dead so badly?"

"I could hurt them." Runi said in a melancholy tone. "Without even meaning to I could hurt them. Now I know why I don't have any friends."

"What do you mean there's a kid at the bottom of a fountain?" Jan asked as they neared the village. "He was just laying there!" Geary explained as she pulled on Jans sleeve, though they were both running. Tory was close behind, and he wasn't sure if Amilie had followed. "There was this big tall guy with red eyes and I think he squished him!" Jan instantly knew that Geary was talking about Syn. They slowed closer to a walk as they entered the center of the village where the fountain was.

Runi has sensed Geary coming back with Jan and laid back down in the fountain. He took another deep breath of water to sink back to the bottom. Kitai sighed and occupied herself by looking at books. Many of the long-term merchants would be staying for a few more days to catch the post-festival travelers who mistook the date or arrived late.
